Ancestral Homes Series: John F Miller - New Albany, IN

New Albany is the town where my great grandfather Loren Randall, his parents, and grandparents lived. I recently obtained a photo of my great great great grandfather, John F Miller (1828-1916) in front of a house.

I think the home in the picture was the one at 1403 Locust Street, where he lived on the 1880 and 1900 censuses. The house is still there today. I found the current owner on Facebook, sent her a message telling her about her home's former occupants, and am half-heartedly awaiting a reply. She probably thinks I'm a crazy stalker, so I am not anticipating a response.

Regardless, here is the house today, and the picture of John from the early 1900s. The window and door match up, but I'm still not 100% positive this is the correct house. It certainly looks that way though!

John is another ancestor I'm very interested in and will write more about later. He was born in Germany and came to the US in 1848. He fought in the Civil War as a Captain and lived to be 88 years old.

It astounds me to think that he raised 9 children in this little house that looks like it can't possibly be more than 950 square feet, and likely has 2 or 3 bedrooms and 1 bath.
